Double Whammy

Last night, Karis was complaining about her finger hurting. She has what looks like a paper cut on her index finger. I convinced her, after much persuasion, to put a band-aid on her finger. Most kids love band-aids; not Karis. I even got her to put some antibiotic ointment on it! We called it "goo". The band-aid/goo combination seemed to help.

Our know-it-all son did not help matters by saying, "Band-aids don't really do anything! They just cover up the cut." Of course, his know-it-all father corrected him by sharing his personal experiment of covering one cut with a band-aid while leaving the other exposed to the air and noting that the band-aided wound healed at least a week faster!

A few hours later Karis came inside saying her toe was bloody. She had apparently stubbed her toe outside and gave herself a flapper. We went upstairs to clean it off and put a band-aid on it and she starts crying saying, "Oh no! Not two band-aids!" as well as "No goo please!" Poor thing. She did not have any trouble getting her toe washed, but cried the entire time we were putting on the band-aid. After it was on, she seemed to be fine. Maybe to Karis the band-aid represents that, "Yes, I really am hurt."
