Our Christmas Trip report:
We were planning to leave for TN Friday, December 22nd. However, it started to snow on Wednesday, closing the interstate, with snow eventually totaling 30 inches. On top of that, Karis started throwing up on Thursday! We really did not want to travel with a sick child that could possible be throwing up in the car!
got up Friday morning, she ate breakfast as we pack the car in case she was feeling better. After waiting a little over an hour without any vomiting, we grabbed a bowl and hit the road, The interstate opened Thursday night, so that road block (ha!) was out of the way. When Karisleaving around 11:30 AM. The rest of the trip went well without any more vomiting. We stopped at a hotel in Concordia, MO. Kaela slept on a real bed for the first time and did real well. I slept with her and she did not kick me at all!
However, while in TN, everyone else in the family got sick. Kristen got sick first, followed by Corban and Karis again, finally, Kaela got sick. Karis only had juice poop, so was not hit too hard. Corban ended up being sick the longest, culminating in Strep Throat. Just as he was getting better, it was the day we were supposed to leave. He was so upset and cried and cried. We decided to stay an extra day so he would have more healthy time to spend with his Nan. As it turned out, another blizzard hit CO/KS and the interstate was closed again anyway.
It seemed we were all healthy again and ready to head home when Kaela threw up in the Kuhl's van on the evening before we left. Ugh! Not only did we have to pack, but now we had to wash clothes, the van seat, and well as strip down and wash the car seat before leaving.
During the night, I heard some moaning in the kids bedroom and went in to find Kaela with a fever indicating that she now had Strep! On Sunday morning, the day we were leaving, we had Eddie call in a prescription of amoxicillin, picked it up at Walgreen's, and started back to CO, with the bowl at the ready again.
We ended up spending the night in Kansas City, KS and found out that the interstate had just opened back up just in time. Whew! P.S. Don't ever spend the night in a Microtel!
We finally made it back to our house, again, without any vomiting in the van! Yeah! Fortunately, our neighbor had shovelled our drive, so we were able to pull right into our garage.
Now, hopefully we can all heal and stay healthy for a while!
