Camping and climbing

The kids and I finally went camping this weekend. It has been something that I've wanted to do all summer, but just have not made the appropriate effort to do it. My friend Jeremy decided to take his family to Carter Lake this weekend and his son, Daniel, asked if "The Green's" could come along with them. Daniel associates Carter Lake with us because we all went climbing there in the past and he apparently had a good time.

The shared camping experience worked out perfectly for us, because Jeremy had extra room in his tent (we still only have our 2-man backpacking tent), all the food items bought, as well as the tent site already reserved. We simply had to pack clothes and bedding and show up.

The kids had a great time cooking hot dogs, making smores, playing in the dirt at the campsite, splashing in the mud and water down by the lake, and climbing around on the rocks. Both on Friday and Saturday Karis said, "This is the BEST day ever!" However, after hiking and getting her legs scratched by some scrub brush she said, "This is not my lucky day!"

Kristen opted not to go camping this time. She had an appointment to get a permanent crown Friday afternoon and knew she would not feel like camping after that experience. However, the crown was not the right size, so after much grinding and fiddling the dentist finally had to recast the tooth and send it back for another crown. Luckily, Kristen did not have to get numbed up during this procedure, but she'll still have to go back and try again when the new crown comes in. Ugh.
