Boys Not Making the Wise Choice

Corban made a very unfortunate decision with his friend Jonathan today. They were in Jonathan's garage trying to get Corban's bike chain back on the chainrings. Apparently, they were having problems and it kept coming off. Somewhere amongst the frustration they decided it would be a "good" idea to pound on his bike with hammers! They hammered the frame to the point that it broke, hammered out multiple spokes on both tires and ripped up the seat. Basically, they destroyed his bike. It is damaged beyond being fixed.

It is disheartening to know that Corban does not have the ability to stand up for what is right when he is around his peers. Maybe it is better he learn this lesson now than when he is in high school. I just hope he really learns it this time. This "making poor choices" seems to be a common problem when he and Jonathan get together. Sigh.

As for a consequence, that was fairly apparent. He obviously does not have a bike to ride any more and we certainly are not going to buy him a new one. His next bike will be purchased by himself with money he earns. Birthday money does not count :). Hopefully this will help him learn several things at once: no instant gratification, work for what you want and you value it more, don't make foolish choices with your peers. Please pray for him.
